Privacy
Travesolo is a map of places you’ve really been. This page says what we keep, who sees it, and how to delete it.
What we keep
- Your account: email, password (stored only as a one-way hash, never readable), name, username, bio, profile photo, home city and, if you add it, the year you started living there.
- Age and agreement: your year of birth (only the year, not your full date of birth) and when you confirmed it; which version of the Terms and this Privacy Policy you agreed to, and when.
- Who invited you: if you tell us, a link to that person’s account. We don’t show it to anyone, and it is removed if either account is deleted.
- Your pins: the place, city, date, rating, tip and the photos or videos you add. For a pin you drop in the app, the exact location your phone reports and how accurate it was.
- Past trips: when you import from photos, the app reads the location and date of camera photos on your phone to find trips. Only the places you tick are sent, with their location and date, plus a photo if you choose one. Places you add by hand keep the city and month you enter.
- People and messages: who you follow and block, Helpful taps, comments, groups you join, group messages, direct messages and reports you file.
- Your phone: a push notification token and whether it’s Android or iPhone.
- App use: a few events such as “imported photos” or “shared a map card”, tied to your account or a random install ID, so we can see what works. No ads and no third-party trackers.
- Server logs: IP address and request details, used for security and rate limits and kept for a short time.
Location
Travesolo reads your location only while the app is open: when you drop a pin, and to show your current city on the Cities tab. Never in the background. Travesolo never shows anyone your live location; your map shows only the pins you chose to drop.
Photos are re-saved on your phone before upload. Our servers then remove hidden location data (GPS) from every photo and video you upload, in pins, profile and cover photos, group chats and direct messages, before it is stored; for photos they also remove camera details.
Who sees what
- Public account: anyone can see your profile, map and pins, including the exact spot of each pin and the share pages on the web.
- Private account: only followers you approve see your map and pins. Your name, username and photo stay visible so people can find you.
- Direct messages: you and the other person. Group messages: members of that group. Photos and videos in direct messages, group chats and buddy rooms, and on pins that aren’t public, are kept in private storage and shown only through links that expire within 12 hours, made only for people who can see that message or pin.
- Moderators see what is reported to them, to review it.
Live trip links are off until you turn them on. By default, someone with the link sees each pin 30 minutes after you drop it, placed to about 1 km, with times rounded to 15 minutes. If you choose Exact, for family, the link shows each pin’s exact place and time as soon as you drop it. Anyone who has the link can see the trip. A link stops working 48 hours after the trip ends, or as soon as you tap Stop sharing. For a private account the trip page never shows your profile or username. After a link stops working, the trip’s pins stay on your map like any other pins, visible to whoever can see your map.
We don’t sell your data and we don’t show ads.
Services we use
These companies run parts of Travesolo for us and use your data only for that: Render (our servers) and Supabase (database and file storage), both in Singapore; Expo (push notifications and app updates); an email service to send sign-in and reset codes. Your data is stored outside India, in Singapore.
How long we keep it
As long as your account exists. When you delete a pin, it disappears from the app and the web at once and its photos and video are deleted from our storage; its place, date and text stay in our database, hidden from everyone, in case it’s part of a report, until you delete your account. Removing one photo deletes that photo.
When you delete your account, these are removed from our database at once: your profile, pins, photos and videos, comments, Helpful taps, follows, direct message conversations (for both people), your group messages, notifications and devices. Groups you run pass to their longest-standing member, or are deleted if no one else is in them.
Reports you filed stay without your name, and app-use events stay without a link to your account. Server logs and backups age out within 30 days.
Your rights
Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, withdraw consent, name someone to act for you, and complain. Most of this is in the app: edit your profile, turn location or photos off in Android settings, or delete your account (or do it here). For anything else, write to the app: Settings → Safety → Report a problem.
Age
Travesolo is only for people aged 18 and over. When you sign up we ask for your year of birth. We keep only the year and the time you confirmed it. If you tell us you are under 18, we don’t create an account, and any unfinished sign-up for that email is deleted. Accounts made before this check are asked once; if the answer is under 18, the account is deleted.
When you create an account, and whenever we change the Terms or this Privacy Policy in a way that needs your agreement, you tick a box to agree. We record which version you agreed to and when, and keep that record for as long as your account exists.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with scrypt. Email codes are single-use and expire in 10 minutes.
Contact and grievances
Write to the app: Settings → Safety → Report a problem. We acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days.
Changes
We’ll update this page and the date above. For a big change, we’ll tell you in the app first.
